This automaton was originally more complicated because I was designing it to suit a larger mechanism so I was limiting myself to a certain type of action (a singular push pull action) which made it more difficult to achieve this swimming action. When I had achieved that I was happy but not impressed enough to keep it… it was very clunky. 

 

When I got over the fact that it wasn’t practical and it looked clunky I then felt free to create this simpler automation. I love simplicity of it.
